Guitar/Bass - Singer/Song Writer - Ensemble Instructor
Guitar/bass instructor Peter Cicco is a guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter who has been a working professional musician in both original and general business (weddings, etc.) bands for over 25 years. Over the last several years he has been playing in a guitar/bass duo at the Science Street Cafe in the Museum of Science in Boston on Friday nights.
Peter has a wealth of musical knowledge, having studied jazz, classical, and popular music privately at Boston University, the New England Conservatory and most notably with world-renowned instructor Charlie Banacos. He lived and studied privately in San Francisco where he was also on the staff of the Keystone Korner jazz club.
As an ensemble instructor at the JPMC since 1990, Peter has led student groups in jazz, rock, funk, R&B, and latin music. As a private instructor in guitar and electric bass in all these musical styles, Peter presents several simple methods for understanding scales, arpeggios, chord voicings, and rhythm combinations. He emphasizes the importance of learning the location of notes on the fretboard and their relationship to chords. By using song examples of the student's choice, he stresses standard musical notation and reading rhythms as a way to encourage the student's self-reliance and enjoyment.
Peter is also a guitar instructor at Phillips Academy in Andover, MA.
